When you're going through a divorce, the last thing you need is a legal process that makes everything harder.

At Manak Solicitors, we guide you through the legal process with honesty, care, and real expertise, so you can focus on what matters most.

Divorce services that we provide

Our family law solicitors team handles every aspect of divorce, from the initial legal process through to financial settlement and arrangements for your children.

Divorce and separation proceedings

We manage the full legal process from start to finish, including filing the application, keeping you informed at each stage, and obtaining the final order. Since the introduction of no-fault divorce in 2022 the process has changed significantly, and we take time to explain what applies to your situation so you’re never left wondering what happens next or why.

Financial settlement

Sorting out finances is often the most complex and consequential part of a divorce, and it’s where getting the right advice matters most. We work to reach an agreement that genuinely reflects your needs and your future, not just one that divides things conveniently on paper. Where assets are significant or finances are complicated, we have the depth of experience to handle it properly.

Child arrangements

When children are involved, the decisions made during a divorce can shape their lives for years to come, and we treat that with the seriousness it deserves. We help parents reach arrangements that put their children’s stability and wellbeing first, pursuing agreement wherever possible and representing you clearly and calmly in court if that is what the situation ultimately requires.

Clean break orders

A clean break order permanently closes the financial relationship between you and your former partner, preventing either party from making claims against the other in the future. Many people underestimate how important this is, particularly if circumstances change significantly down the line. We will advise you honestly on whether a clean break is appropriate for your situation and handle the application on your behalf.

Mediation support

Where both parties are willing to engage, mediation can resolve disputes considerably faster and with less stress than going to court. We prepare you thoroughly before any session, support you through the process, and make sure that any agreement reached is properly documented and legally protected. A mediated outcome is often more durable than a court-imposed one, because both parties have had a hand in reaching it.

Separation agreements

If you are not yet ready to divorce, or if you are an unmarried couple separating, a formal separation agreement can provide important protection for both parties and significantly reduce the risk of disputes further down the line. We draft these with care, making sure the document reflects your actual circumstances accurately and will stand up to scrutiny if it is ever called into question.

The divorce process explained

Stage 1: Starting the divorce

This involves formally applying for divorce and beginning the legal process. We can guide you through the application, paperwork and timelines, ensuring everything is handled correctly from start to finish.

Stage 2: Arrangements and agreements

This stage focuses on the practical matters that need to be resolved, including finances, property and arrangements for children. We help you understand your rights and work towards fair agreements.

Stage 3: Finalising the divorce

Once everything has been agreed, the divorce can be legally finalised. We ensure all documentation is completed correctly and that any financial agreements are properly formalised in order to protect you in the future.

Divorce Questions

How long does a divorce take?

Under the current no-fault divorce process, the minimum timeframe is around six months from the date the application is submitted. Cases that involve disputes over finances or children can take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeline based on your specific circumstances at our first conversation — and we’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Do we both need our own solicitors?

You are not legally required to have separate solicitors, but it is strongly advisable, particularly when finances or children are involved. A solicitor acting for both of you cannot properly represent either of you. Having independent advice ensures your individual interests are properly protected throughout.

What if my spouse doesn’t want to divorce?

Since the introduction of no-fault divorce in 2022, neither party needs to prove fault or assign blame, and the other party can no longer simply refuse to proceed. Either party can apply without the other’s agreement. We’ll explain exactly how this works in your situation and what the process looks like from here.

Will we have to go to court?

The majority of divorces are resolved without any court hearing. Court becomes necessary only when an agreement cannot be reached on key issues, finances, child arrangements, or both. We work hard to find a resolution before it reaches that point, and if court proceedings do become necessary, we’ll represent you clearly and keep you fully informed throughout.

How much will my divorce cost?

Costs depend on the complexity of your case and how constructively both parties engage with the process. We are always transparent about fees from the outset and will give you a clear picture of likely costs at your first consultation. There are no hidden charges, and we’ll tell you straightforwardly if the scope of the work changes.
